Match Reports 2025

Townsend Bowls Club of Waverley Road, St Albans, welcomed three rinks from Hemel to compete in a District League encounter.

All three home rinks started strongly, and all three were never bettered, with the margin between the teams increasing with almost each end played. At the half way stage one rink was 12-4 in the lead; the second was 10-4, and the third a most impressive 16-3.

After the designated 18 ends, one Townsend rink won by 17-12, another by 18-12, and the top rink, of Ian Forster, Bob Padget, Russell Hansard and skip, Alan Charran, was victorious by a most convincing 25-5.

All in all a 62-32 shots margin meant  a reward for Townsend  of 80-0 in terms of points.

In the Third round of the District Pairs two Townsend teams had the misfortune to be drawn against each other. In the end the duo of Peter Thomson and Alan Charran managed to outscore Niranjan and Richard Shakespeare by 17-9, but only after a very close competition, with the scores 9-8 at the half way stage.

A five triple match saw Shire Park competing, in brilliant sunshine, against Townsend at Waverley Road. At the half way point honours were equal, but despite the fact that Townsend won on three rinks against the visitors’ two, they were to lose by 14 shots. Congratulations go to the Top rink of Jon Hamer, Peter Hawkyard and Roger Potter for their very impressive 22-13 win.
