Match Reports 2025

Townsend booked their places in their first County final of the season - the County League,  by beating Potters Bar and thus securing full points from their three matches to date, including Clarence Park and Hatfield.

The two rink showdown, to potentially decide qualification to the Finals, took place at Townsend, and the first rink, of Matt Stuart-Reid, Russell Hansard, Peter Armstrong and Alan Charran started off very convincingly, and were soon 8-1 up. Their opponents then responded and the score was 8 all after 12 ends. Shots were traded resulting in a 12-12 scoreline going into the final end, when the hosts held their nerve, scored the one required, and bagged the points.

The second rink, led by NN, followed by Les Perkins, Bob Lawrie and Peter Thomson were up against a very experienced rink and found the going difficult from the start before they also responded. After eight ends all square at 6-6, but then the visitors stalled and Townsend pulled ahead, not to be bettered, winning by a very credible 15-9.

Full points again, and the reward of a guaranteed slot in the finals at Harpenden at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, in the individual District competitions, Bob Lawrie, Peter Armstrong and Peter Thomson progressed into the semi finals of the Triples at the expense of a trio from Hemel Hempstead and Lawrie, Thomson and Alan Charran moved into the semis of the 2 wood triples after a close struggle with opponents from Potters Bar.

Not to be outdone, the rookie pair of Kamla Jassal and Sandra White achieved a decisive win over a more experienced pair from North Mymms in the District Pairs. After trailing for the first nine ends they overtook with a decisive five on the tenth. By 17 ends they were winning by 10 shots and North Mymms conceded the match. Final score 25-15. This convincing win booked the Townsend pair’s place in the last eight where they will take on Kings Langley.

In the midweek friendly, 4 triples from Kings Langley visited Waverley Road, but went away empty handed. Top rink for Townsend in their clean sweep win were Martin Howlett, Nigel Whittle and Roger Potter, who won by 15 shots, significantly contributing to Townsend’s overall 42 shot margin.

Four triples from Townsend visited Welwyn and District for what turned out to be a hard- fought match, in the end divided in Townsend’s favour by only 4 shots. Sue Sykes ( with her new Aces working well!) Matt Stuart-Reid and Andy Scarborough led the way with a 23-12 victory.

In the Ladies Friday night triples, Townsend remain unbeaten with a home and away win against Batchwood.

At home, Sue Sykes, Kamla Jassal and Sandra White won by 15-13, and away, at a very heavy Batchwood, Rena Williamson Jill Dahlhoff and Jane Dixon triumphed by a most impressive 25-8.
