Match Reports 2026

In the third round of the County Club Championship Townsend were drawn away at St Ippolytes, Hitchin.

Playing on a typical village green has its attractions, but it is also very tasking, particularly when the dimensions of the area are approximately 2/3 of normal.

This, however, did not seem to faze NN, competing in the singles. After trading shots on the first few ends he pulled away to score a dramatic 21–9 victory.

Next to finish were the pairs, of Matt Stuart-Reid and Peter Thomson who had a much closer match, winning in the end by one shot.

Scoring in this competition depends on total shot count, and the triples, of Les Perkins, Andy Scarborough and Gary West accelerated dramatically from end 1 to win the convincingly by 23-13.

Townsend have now booked their place in the quarter finals, versus Sawbridgeworth.

Although Townsend won on two of the three rinks, the convincing margin of their top rink - Anne-Marie Stuart- Reid, Peter Hawkyard, Jane Dixon and Alan Charran, who won by 33-10 made all the difference
