Located in the historic city of St Albans, Hertfordshire, we are an active and welcoming outdoor bowling club with a full calendar of friendly and competitive events during the summer along with social events throughout the year. 

Should you wish to get involved, and to book a taster session with one of our county coaches, then simply give us a ring or make on line contact. We will provide all you need to enjoy this amazing sport, and now is the ideal time to think about some planning some outdoor exercise!  

Our green opens for the new season on Fri 12th of April, and on Saturday 20th April (from 10am until 4pm) we will have an OPEN DAY, to which all-comers are invited. Simply wear flat shoes or trainers.We will supply all you need plus our coaches will be on hand to guide and advise. Bowls is an easy game to enjoy so why not come along and give it a try!

Townsend Bowls Club competes at many different levels, and we have numerous teams involving almost all our members, whether beginners or more experienced, in matches against other clubs, 

Friendlies are held both midweek and at weekends against other local teams. These are normally mixed and played in the spirit for which bowls is known - very often starting and finishing with a drink in the bar along with one's opponents!  New starters are always welcome at the club, where we offer beginner training by our two highly qualified and experienced coaches.

Our last season was particularly special as we celebrated with matches against a huge variety of other clubs, as well as games against  touring teams including London Welsh, London Scottish and a District select team made up of members of other clubs in the St Albans area. Many of these teams, including London Scottish and Welsh, both of which are particularly known for their competitiveness as well as their hospitality, are booked in for a return fixture in the coming season.

As well as having what is generally considered to be one of the best greens in the County, Townsend has a very modern club house with a newly refurbished kitchen, a well stocked bar, a main lounge with large picture windows overlooking the green and two viewing galleries offering a birdseye view of the competition below.
