Triples

Triples – Full Responsibilities

Lead

  • Sets the foundation of the head
  • Provides early pressure
  • Clears bowls if their team loses the end
  • Sets mat and jack if their team wins

Second

  • Plays positional bowls
  • Covers danger areas
  • Plays controlled weight when needed
  • Primary measurer in triples

Skip

  • Directs tactics
  • Plays the final bowls
  • Confirms the score
  • Manages team communication

End‑of‑End Duties

  • Clearing bowls: losing lead
  • Setting mat/jack: winning lead
  • Measuring: second (preferred), skip if needed
    • The team nearest the jack ask for the number of shots they think they hold. The other team then measure and confirm. Woods can be removed from the head to simplify this process as long as both teams agree.
  • Agreeing score: skips
  • Disputes: second → skip → umpire
